Global artists shun Israeli cinema

Thousands of artists, including some Hollywood A-listers, have pledged not to work with Israeli film institutions.

Thousands of artists, including some Hollywood A-listers, have pledged not to work with Israeli film institutions.

The pledge, organized by the group Film Workers for Palestine, condemns the “unrelenting horror” in Gaza, where many Palestinians have been killed by Israel.

According to media reports, the pledge has collected more than 4,000 industry signatures since the pledge was made public on Wednesday.

The signatories vowed to avoid Israeli festivals, cinemas, broadcasters, and production companies implicated in “genocide and apartheid.”

They cited International Court of Justice findings that Israel’s occupation is illegal and assessments by multiple rights experts and scholars that Israel’s military assault on Gaza amounts to genocide.

Signatories included actors Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Tilda Swinton, Riz Ahmed, Javier Bardem and Cynthia Nixon.
